sports |
| Topics
|

- Summary of how
medical personnel should respond to an athlete who has sustained a
potential concussion
- Description
of neuropsychological assessment of athletes
- Description
of Standardized Assessment of Concussion (SAC)

| Conclusion |
- Every athlete
with concussion should be evaluated by a physician.
- Athletes should
be closely monitored after a concussion and severity and symptoms
should be the determining factors to consider before the athlete is
allowed to return to play.
- Newer tools
of assessment, such as balance testing, are not recommended for clinical
decision-making for concussion at this time. Further data needs
to be collected before these assessments are used clinically.
- More research
is needed in this area.
