Type of Study: Summary of Research Studies

Researchers have thought that brain injury in acquired early-on has often led to a more successful outcome than brain injury acquired later in life. However, recent studies are finding that early-onset damage to pre-frontal structures can have devastating effects evidenced in social behavior, personality disorders, and executive functioning skills such as planning and decision making. This article looks at studies designed to reduce the burden that neurodevelopmental disorders place on the personal well-being of family, educational resources, and social structures.
